It is well known that ineeciencies occur in the operation of TCP when the bandwidth delay product of the network is large compared to its buuering capacity. A central reason for that is a cyclic behavior of the protocol in which two consecutive slow-start phases appear in each cycle 5, 1]. This results in low throughput and under-utilization of the available bandwidth. We show in this paper that, for an even larger ratio between the bandwidth-delay product and the buuer size, which is typical for satellite links, a new regime of three consecutive slow-start phases occurs. We need to reene previously studied models in order to explain this phenomenon. We analyze in this paper this phenomenon, predict when it occurs and evaluate the corresponding average throughput of the connection.

Improving Bandwidth-power Efficiency of Homogeneous Wireless Networks Using On-meet Threshold Strategy (RESEARCH NOTE)

Over two decades, a problem of location dependent has been focused for improving the communication Bandwidth-Power Efficiency of homogeneous networks. The efficiencies of communication links are weakened by the Hidden Terminal Problem.  Thus we propose a Fine – Tune Strategy for analyzing the On-Off communication region. We were observed that the proposed technique had been able to track and mo...

TCP behavior with many flows

TCP's ability to share a bottleneck fairly and efficiently decreases as the number of competing flows increases. This effect starts to appear when there are more flows than packets in the delay-bandwidth product. In the limit of large numbers of flows, TCP forces a packet loss rate approaching 50%, causing delays that users are likely to notice. TCP’s minimum congestion window of one packet is ...
